How to force ESXi to reboot

You need to run the reboot command  with some parameters from an SSH command-line to perform a hard reset.

  1. SSH into the VMware server.
  2. Run the following Linux command:

    # reboot -n -f

The ESXi host will immediately reboot. This is equivalent to a “hard reset”, meaning you could lose data the same as if you had turned the power off on the server. Proceed with caution and only use when absolutely necessary.
